INSIGHTS
People seek a fulfilling trip with a blend of past and present, unique experiences to savor as souvenirs, and a consistent thrill that beckons them back for more surprises.

STORYBOARDING & TESTING: AR in NYC
1. Walk Into an AR Sphere
After putting on AR glasses, users can see multiple AR spheres popping up on the street in each destination. Each sphere contains different interactive experiences to explore. Users can slowly walk into the sphere to enter.
2. Enjoy AR Interactions
All AR sphere experiences within a destination share the same theme, which is designed based on the unique storyline of that place.
3. Travel between Spheres
To exit a sphere, simply click on the exit button on the top left corner (shown in the demo video). Users can then walk into another AR sphere to begin a new interactive experience.
4. City AR Exploration
When not in a sphere, users can still interact with other AR effects on the street to learn about the place in aspects such as history, architecture, city planning, and future landscape.
Ideation & Storyboard
For this project, I've selected Times Square, Grand Central Terminal, and the High Line for AR demonstrations, showcasing a unique opportunity for immersive design.

TIMES SQUARE

GRAND CENTRAL

HIGH LINE

Interviewee: Hanging Yang | Date: 09/23/2023
After testing and consolidating the AR experiences for each of the three destinations, the visual frameworks were further discussed along with the moodboard with interviewees to define the unique AR visuals for each place.
Each spot to have a unique storyline, representing the area's most special aspect, encouraging users to revisit.

This "walk into the sphere" effect will be created with a program called ARLOOPA

AR Tourism Experience in New York City

Collect the movie poster after each view.
Adjust the movie frame size.
GRAND CENTRAL TERMINAL
Grand Central's movie fame boosts its popularity. The AR experience allows viewers to watch the well-known scenes from within the terminal's perspective.

Navigate your route.
Insert the wishing star for a lucky charm under the station's unique sky ceiling.
HIGH LINE

The High Line, once a hub of factories and train tracks, has now transformed into a vibrant green space. This interaction experience allows people to use plant seeds to craft a dreamy future from the remnants of old factories.

Future planting in progress...

Each planting produces flowers planted on the High Line.

Your recreated world has been saved in the High Line assets.
Next Steps
NEXT STEPS
The current service blueprint showcases a good scope and activeness of stakeholder engagement.
For the next step, I am planning to focus a bit more on the business aspects. This includes inviting local vendor businesses to participate in the AR experience, allowing users to explore hidden gems while touring. It will be a win-win situation, as this program will sponsor the vendors to promote their businesses, while UR[AR]BAN can gain more exposure to potential users through these partnerships
